Kinema In The Woods

One of the UK’s most prestigious independent cinemas, The Kinema In The Woods, who recently opened their third screen, have now installed a brand new audio system in their main auditorium.

Bell Theatre Services’ Sound and Projection Engineer, Barry Wright, calculated and specified the custom replacement audio system, which utilised JBL CBT1000 with CBT 1000E line array loudspeakers for the left and right stage channels, coupled with a pair of CBT 1000E and  JBL AM7200/64 for the centre channel. JBL loudspeakers were utilised for the left and right surround arrays. Sub Bass was provided by a JBL5628 dual 18” sub bass cabinet.

Time alignment of all stage speakers was achieved via Crown processing, along with the appropriate Crown amplifiers to drive the system.

The project was not without inconsiderable obstacles to be overcome, with projection via a non-perforated Harkness Translite rear projection surface (with both 35mm and digital rear projection), and a long, narrow auditorium with numerous heritage features, including a pit for the Compton organ which is played at least weekly.

The dispersion pattern of the JBLAM7200/64 allowed for clear dialogue intelligibility across the length of the auditorium, while the JBL5628 sub bass cabinet allowed for plenty of depth to the subwoofer channel, whilst taking up minimal space in an already crowded, and unique, space.

All of us at Bell Theatre Services are pleased to work with Philip and his dedicated team at Woodhall Spa to keep this unique cinema at the cutting edge of cinema technology while maintaining the character and ambience of this unique showplace.
